Peter Piper Picked a Peck of .....
58Peppers
Here are my very first desert grown peppers. I have a bell pepper and a jalapeno plant growing. The bell plant is getting rather large so I'll be seperating them. Plus I just read that they can cross polinate and effect the seeds of the plants. I don't want that!
I bought the two plants from my local nursery about 6" tall. My cat nibble the jalapeno plant almost completely so I'm shocked its still alive. He devoured my cilantro and nibbled at the bell pepper plant also.
I'm not sure if they should be producing fruit yet but I am glad that they are still alive. The jalapeno appears to be ready to grow fruit. The bell had flowers bloom and they died and fell off. Now they appear to be either blooming more flowers or maybe fruit?
I have quit watering the jalapeno plant daily and now its doing much better. It loves that sunny window too. The bell pepper doesn't like too much sun and the leaves begin to droop. I am growing them indoors in containers for now. I am working on the outdoor lot but need to have a shade defense plus our soil is terrible. The ground does not drain and is way too dry.
I love how the corners of the Jalepeno plant are a deep purple color now it reminds me of a sun ripened pepper ready to eat. The plant also smells great, no wonder the cat was eating it. I had my heart set on serrano peppers but my nursery said they dont grow well here. I doubt that peppers love the full sun and here in Arizona we get pleanty of it. I will just have to buy them live from my favorite online nursery.
